Today is my mom’s last day at work. She has worked for the same company for over 20 years. Each day she has left the house at 7am and before leaving she would make sure I was awake, dressed, and would always tell me not to fall back asleep. She used to put cold wash clothes on face, motivate me by saying, “two more wake-ups until the weekend”, give me lipstick kisses, and sometimes try to have full conversations about the night before or my plans for the weekend.
My mom may have missed some field hockey games, Halloween parties, or middle of the day school plays but she always helped prepare & get organized. We used to pass the ball in the backyard, she made me a table one year and always will make me feel special. She may not have been present at those events but I know she would always be happy I did my best.
My parents have created a beautiful family. We all may be different but we will always support one another and realize we wouldn’t be this independent, unique, or strong willed without each other. I am lucky to have a mother, father & brothers who fill my life with happiness.
